Choir
At the outset it is worth defining 'CHOIR' in Garnerville as including singers, band and musicians. The term ‘PRAISE’ at Garnerville encompasses traditional and contemporary music. The praise is chosen based upon words suitable for the topic of the service. Singers are now in the region of 30+ and the band includes (not always on the one Sunday), piano, keyboard, drums, acoustic guitars, bass guitar, flute, violin, trumpet, clarinet and other guests from time to time. We now have a new sound system in 2009 that has helped all of us sound even better if that were possible!
‘Music and Muffins’, ‘Songs & Scones’ or a similar themed evening has become an annual event to start our year. Usually held in September, this forum is used to discuss many aspects of music and praise within Garnerville. The aim of this workshop is to have a unified body of people ready to lead and guide the worship for the following church calendar year.
‘Special Services’ are where the choir undertake a larger musical input. This is increasing year by year due to the enthusiastic commitment of everyone. We welcome and encourage anyone to sing along with us at these services i.e. Harvest, Remembrance Day, Carols by Candlelight, Mothers Day and Palm Sunday.
In May 2009 we added a new dimension and staged our own ‘East End Show’. Using the talents of our own congregation we raised in the region of £3,000 to be divided between our church sound system and CLICsargent children’s cancer charity.
Come along whenever you can: From September to May we meet as below and due to the busy and changing demands of working life we do not demand that everyone comes to every rehearsal or service.
To accommodate everyone we:
- Arrange a rota for the band.
- Choir rehearsals stay two weeks ahead to accommodate anyone who misses a week.
- If you have young children, stay with them until they go out to FOG and then come on up to the front with us.
- If you are a FOG leader, sing with us until the children go out.
- We actively encourage and look forward to anyone joining us for the ‘special services’
- Ages are from 8 to 80. All mix well and sing well together. the ’choir’ has a marvelous sense of fun (that is needed for some of the tasks set before them), we enjoy the rehearsals and enjoy the privilege of leading the worship on a Sunday.
- Even if you haven’t been to church for a long time or are a visitor and want to sing, come along and join in with us.
